Vampires of El Norte
Historical, horror, and romance wrapped into one book. I couldn't get enough of it. I will say it is more of romance than a horror and the couple had many quarrels to get through. Néstor believes Nena is dead and revels with that grief for nine years, believing it was all his fault and flees their hometown at 13. Nena, alive, feels abandoned by Néstor, her closest friend from childhood and deals with that sort of grief. The two reunite to defend their land from US colonizers and a monster that lurks in the dark. I enjoyed the story but am docking .5 of a star because at times it felt a bit repetitive, but that did not ruin the book for me.
