Profoundly Moving

This quiet and complex novel is something like opening a jewelry box and finding a tightly knotted clump of slender gold chains that like her characters are impossibly tangled into a knot of grief and the consequences of grief--page after page she artfully works each strand a bit at a time—pulling, loosening, reaching under and over uncovering space, relieving tension, revealing reasons, working the knot until it begins to open and at last the golden strands are freed and laid out in the universal truth of the tragedy of generational trauma.
