Auspicious Beginning
My cousin recommended this book(and series) to me, and it took me a while to get my hands on volume one. It's a murder mystery series, where the main character suffers from what's now called PTSD. It's set in post-WWI England, and the main character is a Scotland Yard inspector, who before the war, was one of their better homicide detectives. He's been treated, and released medically, and given his job back, but has a supervisor who is aware of his condition, and doesn't like him. He's shunted off to this case, outside of London, where one war hero may have murdered another. It's a very politically sensitive case, where even the palace is interested in the results, and the supervisor hopes that Inspector Rutledge screws it up, so he can be fired. This is very well-written, with what appears to be an excellent grasp of the England of that ... read more time. I'm hooked, and lining up a copy of book two, as we speak.
